Electric motors, in general, and induction machines, in particular, operate most efficiently in the vicinity of their nominal operating conditions since the balance between the load losses and the magnetizing losses is designed to be optimum near that point. At partial loads or non-nominal speeds the motor efficiency drop off considerably due to improper distribution of the losses. The purpose of this paper is to show that a significant amount of energy can be saved by adjusting the flux level according to the load of an induction motor by using fuzzy logic optimization controller based on vector control scheme. An extensive simulation work yields to selected results to highlight the efficiency improvement for the proposed algorithm.
