SAN FRANCISCO — Google hopes to make good on the long-promised concept of the thin-client network computer with the Chromebook, named for its Chrome Web browser. The company announced at its annual developer conference that Acer and Samsung have set June ship dates for the first Chrome-books, which use only Web-based apps and services—and thus need neither hard drives nor Windows.
