Singapore ― Looking to become a global player as a one-stop provider of semiconductor test and assembly services, three-year-old Infiniti Solutions here has acquired Automated Technology (Phil.) Inc., which provides similar services from the Philippines. Infiniti says it also plans to expand its operations in the United States. The acquisition gives Infiniti a presence in the Philippines, which is fast evolving as a key outsourcing location thanks to its skilled, English-literate work force. Engineering staffers, technical-support specialists and production personnel typically work for a third or a fifth of the salary garnered by their counterparts in Singapore, for example. The acquisition is seen as a piece of the master plan of Inderjit Singh, founder and chief executive officer, to build Infiniti Solutions into a global, vertically integrated test and assembly company offering prototyping, design and mass-production services. Last year, Infiniti Solutions surprised the test and assembly industry by acquiring Viko Technology Inc. (Santa Clara, Calif.), a provider of test and engineering services. Infiniti currently operates one of the largest semiconductor prototype testing facilities in the United States, two design centers in India and now a mass-production facility in the Philippines. Singh said that Infiniti Solutions has already broken even and would be prof-itable for the 2003 calendar year.
