Madrid, Spain - The world's top aerospace and defense manufacturer, Boeing Co., is locked in a struggle for global dominance with Europe's largest aerospace company. Each seeks a foothold in the other's backyard while shoringup aerospace projects with heavy electronics content at home. Boeing has retained its top position despite growing pressure from emerging European rivals Airbus and the European Aeronautics Defence and Space Co. (EADS), Europe's largest aerospace company and No. 2 in the world. The increasingly successful EADS, formed just two years ago from a number of well-established European companies, is registered in the Netherlands, has headquarters in both Paris and Munich and owns 70 design and production facilities in France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom and Belgium. An engineering center in Moscow and 35 global representative offices oversee its developmentprojects. EADS employs 1,500 workers in the United States.
