As we approached Graph Expo '03, the industry seemed to be holding its collective breath in anticipation of huge crowds and excitement over a eenergized economy. Now that the show is over, we can sit back and breathe again. The crowds may not have been huge, but the excitement certainly was more than I expected. I spoke with some of the vendors, and their reaction to the buying frenzy was like watching a "Kmart blue-light special." By Tuesday night the sales forces were having celebrations over meeting or exceeding their show sales targets, and they still had one more day of selling at the show. The fact that the show attendees came to buy or see what they will buy soon is more than good news? it is great news for our industry. Maybe show promoters will start to focus on having quality attendance rather than just big numbers inflated by bringing in buses full of students.
