The most important challenge with the approach of the 21st century is to realize intelligent electronic systems that have instant responsiveness and are superior in such flexible information processing functions as flexible inter- pretation, approximate judgement, and analogy by intui- tion. This paper first describes four-terminal devices that substantially increase the functions of the transistor as a baseline device.
