The market for wearable technology is on the fast track for growth, with the number of devices shipped set to expand by a factor of 12 by 2016, according to a recent IMS Research report from information and analytics provider IHS. In 2011,14 million wearable devices were estimated to have been shippedfHowever, by 2016, IHS believes the number of wearable devices available will grow to somewhere between 39 million and potentially 171 million, depending upon a number of scenarios, as shown in this figure.
