Delft University of Technology, TU Delft, the oldest university of technology in The Netherlands, was founded in 1842. At present, with fifteen faculties, TU Delft has a good international reputation in both university education and science research. The university employs more than 5,000 people and has about 14,000 students. Some 1,400 students are not of Dutch nationality. To become an engineer takes five years. Upon successfully completing their Master's thesis, students are awarded the degree of ingenieur (ir), which is equivalent to the MSc degree and the title of Dipl.-Ing.The Faculty of Electrical Engineering was established in 1905. Today, there are 1,500 registered students. Nearly 100 young academics are preparing their Doctor's thesis.
