Hydraulic elevators dominated the elevator market for 50 years - until the beginning of the 21st century. With the emergence of machine-room-less (MRL) traction elevators in 1995, hydraulic elevators began dealing with increased competition. Nevertheless, fluid-driven systems have their distinct advantages, such as low maintenance cost due to wear-free driving components, flexibility of car and machine-room design, safety features, and easy and cost-effective installations.
