1. IBM and Vodafone's new enterprise services venture, to jointly develop advanced digital solutions. 2. The partnership reflects our views that IoT proliferation requires vendors to collaborate and to adopt more service-centric business models. Vodafone and IBM are to join forces to develop enterprise-centric digital solutions, focusing on disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), cloud/edge computing, software defined networking (SDN) and 5G. This venture - which kicks off with an eight-year USD550mn agreement on cloud computing - is in line with some of our longheld views regarding the proliferation of disruptive technologies and the Internet of Things (IoT): 1. Tech and telecoms companies will increasingly collaborate as part of their growth and expansion strategies. 2. Disruptive technologies do not operate in silos, meaning that more cross-sector partnerships must be expected. 3. IoT will be mainly about services, going beyond traditional connectivity.
