The Latest: Telia has agreed to sell its stake in Turkcell Holding to the Turkey Wealth Fund for approximately USD530mn.Implications: The deal will see the Turkish state significantly increase its direct and indirect control over both Turkcell and theTurkish telecommunications market. Turkey Wealth Fund and the Turkish government already control a combined 30% ofincumbent operator Turk Telekom and its mobile subsidiary Avea. This would leave Vodafone Turkey as the sole majorindependent telecoms player. There is an increase the risk of elevated state intervention in the domestic telecoms market thatmight favour state-owned players.
