The Latest: Towerco Cellnex has announced it will rollout IoT networks in partnershipwith Everynet – a provider of IoT connectivity services – in Italy, Ireland and the UK. Thenetworks will be based on LoRaWAN technology.Implications: The IoT infrastructure and solutions provided by Cellnex and Everynet willfocus on Industry 4.0 applications. In particular, the utilities and transport sectors, and morebroadly smart cities projects, will be the strategic focus of Cellnex’s IoT services. As ourMegatrends survey has shown, these sectors are ripe for technological disruption, withindustry players expecting IoT to have a significant impact on their business models overboth the short- and long-term period.

The collaborations analysed span academia, civil society and government, from the grassroots to the national and global levels. By locating these examples within the broader debates on interactions between researchers and research users designed to strengthen evidence informed decision making, this publication offers concepts and practices to inform those funding, designing and undertaking development research. The featured case studies are explored through the perspectives of both researchers and their partners in civil society and policy.
