摘要

More than a quarter of China's energy use occurs in its residential buildings. This already huge consumption will almost certainly double before 2020 because new homes will be built and existing homes will be improved to make them warmer in the winter, cooler in the summer, and more comfortable in many other ways. In addition, the occupants will buy entirely new kinds of equipment to give them new amenities. Decision makers and researchers recognize the pressing need to learn more about energy conservation in the housing sector and then to control the growing energy demand. In this context, a special issue devoted to the energy and environment of Chinese residential buildings makes urgent sense.
