Heat losses from below ground basements from four different methods given in the literature were comapred. Discrepancies of up to a factor of six were noticed. Conduction shape factors for different configurations of a given basement were obtained experimentally from simulations using a field plotting technique. The conduction shape factors were compared with those obtained from the different methods, and conclusions were given about the suitability of these methods to estimate the ground heat loss.
