This paper presents a brief review on recent advances in gas turbine technology and various means for reduction in specific fuel consumption. An intercooled recuperative combined cycle, with closed-loop steam cooling breaks the 60/100 barrier in thermal efficiency. An innovative chemical gas turbine is in development to achieve a thermal efficiency of over 60/100. Various means for reduction in specific fuel consumption are discussed.
