The World Federation of Scientists (WFS) held its 44th Session—The International Seminars on Planetary Emergencies and Associated Meetings, in Sicily, with a theme of "The Role of Science in the Third Millennium". It was presided over by Prof. Antonino Zichichi from CERN. There were five parallel sessions of the Planetary Monitoring Panels (PMP) on 19th August, covering: Energy, Pollution & Water, Mitigation of Terrorist Acts, Information Security and Limits of Development. The International Seminar commenced on the 20th August and ended on the 23 rd and covered six topics: Science in the Third Millennium, Climate, Information Security, Energy, Pollution and Water.
