Every company has legal obligations to disclose non-financial data as part of its annual reporting cycle. It is becoming increasingly common to issue a separate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report that includes information on environmental, health, and safety (EHS) performance. As a public statement of performance and intent, the data contained within the CSR report must be as accurate as the profit and loss figures, upon which the board and shareholders make their decisions, and it must stand up to scrutiny But what does CSR mean, and what relevance does it have to an industrial or engineering business?
