Until now there has been very little repetition as everything has been a one-off or two-off but now the fun starts. Nine cylinders (cast iron), barrels (aluminium), pistons (aluminium) and cylinder heads (mild steel), eighteen valves (stainless steel), valve springs, rockers etc. It was found that the scale type valve springs wound from clock springs were not successful so piano wire ones were made instead. There are many full size examples in museums with conical wire wound springs. Another example of special fixtures needed is to enable all the liner/barrel assemblies to have the last few thous. bored out at a fixed tool setting. This is in a repeatability fixture to get them all as near to the same size as possible before honing.
