The next rail journey on my 'Swiss Railway Experience' was on the Schweizerische Sudostbahn, Swiss South Eastern Railway, SOB. The SOB is a small private railway. It operates from Romanshorn on Lake Constance via St. Gallen to Luzern in central Switzerland and between Wadenswil on the lake of Zurich and Einsiedeln, to the pilgrims destination in the Kanton of Schwyz. The network is 123km in length and includes the highest viaduct in Switzerland, 99m in height and the steepest mainline gradient at I in 20. The railway transports about 13.5 million passengers per year and is an essential part of the integrated transport system in the Voralpen region.
