The rear cylinder cover is most unusual. For a start it is not bolted on but sandwiched between the cylinder end and the trunkguide.Thecover is extremely long and houses a labyrinth gland. The original gland material was metallic and consisted of a series of disks with holes in them. The idea being that as the steam tried to get passed it went through cavity after cavity and gradually lost strength and by the time it had got to the end it had given up and not bothered to go any further.
