The Sherline mill is a small milling machine intended for model makers. The work envelope is quite restricted, but it is capable of very good work within those limits. Sherline also make a matching lathe which shares many components. I have the metric model, which has 1mm pitch leadscrews - on the Imperial machines these are 20tpi. Converting the mill to CNC required fitting stepper motors to each axis of the mill, building the stepper controller, connecting the controller to a PC and running appropriate CNC software on the PC to control the mill.
