The UK's most senior engineers have called for a complete overhaul of engineering education with much greater emphasis to be put on communication and practical business skills at both the highest and intermediate levels. This will require two types of engineering courses to be offered by universities. The first will produce 'support engineers' with an understanding of commercial practices and the practical skills to improve products.
