Sodium chloride(NaCl)has a strong pressure enhancing effect on the three-phase equilibrium liquid water-hydrate-vapor(L_w-H-V)in the ternary system water + methane + sodium chloride(H_2O + CH_4 + NaCl). Recently, however, it became apparent that certain in water soluble and insoluble organic components have the opposite effect on the equilibrium pressure of the three-phase equilibrium L_w-H-V. compared to the hydrate equilibrium pressure of the organic free system, Pressure reductions as high as 80/100 have been observed.
