Correlation based on the group contribution method is proposed for the estimation of the acentric factor of hydrocarbons of 6 to 30 carbon atoms which belong to the following chemical families: normal alkanes, iso-alkanes, I-alkenes, naphtenics (n-alkylcyclohexanes) and aromatics (n-alkylbenzenes). The proposed correlation is used to estimate the acentric factors of mixtures and petroleum fractions using the additivity rule. This method is simple to use and gives good results when compared to other Methods given in the literature.
