The role of the Soret effect in Marangoni thermal con- vection when heating from the side is studied in a shallow cavity of aspect ratio, length to height, equal to 10. It is found that the surface flow inhibits the Soret separation down tot he percent effect. In contrast, The vaporization-condensation phenomenon appears To play a relevant role to interpret the velocity idstri- Butions observed experimentally in two independent Marangoni experiments.
