An application of the Theory of Exergetic Cost to the analysis of a vapour-con- pression heat pump is presented, especially aimed at studying the effects induced on the plant by malfunctions of its components. The evaluation of exergy saving achievable for the plant by only restoring the original efficiency of a single device is described. The case of a very simple plant is used in a numerical example.
