摘要

Batch processes operate materials in a discrete manner. The modelling of their dynamics needs to deal with logical expressions. Logics is implied at many levels, from the unit operation level, in open or closed loop, to the overall one. The Discrete System theory provides methods and tools to give a realistic picture of the system dynamics. The authors define the concept of Discrete Event models. Petri Nets are proposed as an appropriate tool to build the relevant models taking into account all the features of the system complexity, including the continuous behaviour.
