The White House is releasing a multi-faceted, inter-agency plan to bolster domestic supply chains for electric vehicle (EV) batteries and other crucial materials needed for low-carbon energy, efforts that will be key in achieving the administration's goal of coupling aggressive climate mitigation policy with a boost to economic activity. The endeavor includes tasks for a variety of federal agencies, including potential EPA and legislative updates to environmental standards for mining, an Energy Department (DOE)-led task force to encourage lithium recycling for batteries, and an Interior Department (DOI)-led group to identify areas for critical mineral production and processing.
