House Republican lawmakers appear divided over whether to restore proposed budget cuts to major EPA programs, with GOP members of the Appropriations Committee's interior panel suggesting a need to boost water infrastructure funds and other programs while energy panel Republicans oppose funding increases for the agency. The split could complicate efforts to move the agency's fiscal year 2017 appropriations legislation through the lower chamber. President Obama earlier this year proposed to fund EPA at $8.27 billion, a slight increase from its enacted FY16 funding of $8.14 billion. While the FY17 proposal is an increase to the agency's actual current funding level, it would be $320 million less than Obama's FY16 proposal to fund EPA at $8.59 billion.
