An EPA official says that President Obama's interagency working group that will craft a strategy for reducing methane emissions from oil and gas drilling will be seeking to identify where best practices for controlling the greenhouse gas (GHG) are already occurring in particular industry sectors and how those practices could be facilitated on a wider scale. Sarah Dunham, director of EPA's Office of Atmospheric Programs told a July 11 Environmental Council of the States (ECOS) conference, "The Path to New Energy: Hydraulic Fracturing in Focus," held in Washington, D.C, that "clearly there is not a one-size-fits-all approach" to methane controls for the oil and natural gas sector, but added that EPA needs to "make sure we're providing the right incentives, not the wrong incentives."
