Gina McCarthy's Senate confirmation is already prompting calls for the new EPA administrator to take a leading role in top regulatory policy matters, including power industry calls for the former air chief to play a greater role overseeing pending climate and environmental rules governing the sector and environmentalists 'calls for the agency to quickly issue Tier 3 fuel rules and oversee the development of the climate rules. The Edison Electric Institute, in a statement from its President Tom Kuhn, said it hoped that McCarthy's confirmation will bring clarity to major issues pending in front of the agency, including on such measures as Section 316(b) rule for cooling water intake structures, coal ash regulation and greenhouse gas (GHG) new source performance standards for new and existing power plants.
