摘要

The Defense Department (DOD), EPA and states have launched a new version of a munitions cleanup dialogue group aimed at addressing policy and procedures affecting munitions responses, overcoming obstacles to cleanup and developing best practices for these sites, according to sources. The so-called Munitions Response Dialogue held its first meeting Aug. 13-14, "to promote broader communication and collaboration between representatives from" DOD, EPA, state regulators and federal land management agencies, according to a description of the meeting on the Association of State & Territorial Solid Waste Management Officials' (ASTSWMO) website. The formation of the group is at least the third rendition of similar committees established over the past several years to address policy issues related to military munitions cleanup sites. A state-led group known as the Munitions Response Forum (MRF) folded in early 2012 due to expired funding, although a defense official at the time said DOD would like to continue a dialogue on the matter.
