摘要

The Defense Department (DOD) and NASA are concerned that EPA's decision to split its long-awaited assessment of the risks posed by dioxin into separate cancer and non-cancer assessments will lead to confusion at contaminated waste sites because regulators may have to craft separate cleanup requirements. "EPA's rationale to split a heavily reviewed document has not been adequately explained and will likely cause widespread confusion and uncertainty when regulators apply only the non-cancer values to new or ongoing remediation efforts," NASA said in recently released comments on EPA's non-cancer assessment. Relevant documents are available on InsideEPA.com. Seepage 2 for details. (Doc ID: 2391856) An EPA spokeswoman says, "EPA will be developing direction to its regions on how the new dioxin reference dose will inform cleanup levels."
