House Republicans are urging the White House Office of Management & Budget (OMB) to withdraw a controversial EPA rule expanding industry's chemical production and use reporting requirements, saying it violates President Obama's recent executive order (E.O.) on regulatory review. House Energy & Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI), together with Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL), the chairman of the committee's environment panel, wrote an April 4 letter to OMB Director Jacob Lew asking the office to withdraw EPA's proposed Inventory Update Reporting (IUR) rule because it "fails to meet the requirements" of President Obama's E.O. 13563 on regulatory review, as well as the Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA). 7. This study seeks to quantify determinants, and costs, of the laborforce participation of married women. We use demographic and earnings data from the Health and Retirement Study. The earnings data constitute an unusually long panel but have the defect of lacking corresponding reports on work hours. By using a highly structured model and concentrating on the participation margin, we nevertheless feel that we can make substantial progress. Our preliminary regression results imply that married women’s market work disrupts their household consumption slightly less than one half as much as men’s work (relative to complete household retirement).
