A group of state officials concerned about mercury pollution is lending its voice to calls by environmentalists and industry to ask the administration to pressure General Motors (GM) to resume its participation in a national program to recover mercury switches after the company decided not to pay into the program when it emerged from bankruptcy.rnIn a Sept. 16 letter to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson, the Quicksilver Caucus asks Jackson to work with the administration to compel the newly-restructured GM to participate in the program, saying that the program will cease to operate as intended without GM.
