The editors of a collection of papers on Europeanization have had the rather unenviable task of first providing guidance to contributors on what they take Europeanization to be. Ian Bache and Andrew Jordan opt for a loose definition, defining Europeanization as the extent to which the "policies, practices and preferences" of the EU system of governance have served to reshape or reorient "politics in the domestic arena". The task of filling in the empirical space provided by this catchall definition, and offering analytical commentary as to the precise modalities through which the aspect of British politics under their examination has (or has not) been Europeanized, is then left to the contributing authors.
