摘要

Nuclear reactors, pummeled by competition from cheap natural gas from U.S. shale basins, still cost less than gas over the long term, according to the head of New Jersey's biggest utility. Nuclear power costs about $30 to $35 per megawatt-hour, while a new combined-cycle gas generator can cost $50 to $60 per megawatt-hour, Ralph Izzo, chief executive officer of Public Service Enterprise Group Inc., said in an interview April 25 with Bloomberg Markets at Bloomberg New Energy Finance's The Future of Energy Summit in New York. The electric grid will be dominated by gas as reactors are retired, jeopardizing reliability, Izzo said.
