摘要

Regional Environmental Protection Agency employees discussed how to handle lead contamination in the drinking water of Flint, Mich., as early as June of 2015, but took no concrete action to counter it until December, e-mails released at a House hearing March 15 show. "This is no surprise, lead lines + no treatment = high lead in water = lead poisoned children," according to a Sept. 22 e-mail from one region staff member, who was called a "hero" at the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing. The staff member, Miguel Deltoral, pushed the EPA to act on Flint's lead contamination issues as early as June. The e-mails and other testimony at the hearing, which Rep. John Mica (R-Fla.) said would be remembered as "the great finger pointing hearing," chipped away at the big question: Who is responsible for the massive public health crisis of Flint, and who should be held accountable?
