The Clean Water Act should be amended to protect "good Samaritan" companies, environmental organizations and other entities-including state and local government agencies-that voluntarily clean up abandoned mines, the Western Governors' Association said in a resolution. The statement was one of seven resolutions on environmental policy approved June 14 during the group's annual meeting in Jackson, Wyo.
