Volkswagen reported its 11th consecutive month of year-over-year sales declines in the U.S. and has now seen its sales fall 12.5 percent in 2016 compared to the first nine months of last year. The automaker Oct. 3 reported September sales of 24,112 vehicles in the U.S., a decline of about 7.8 percent compared to September 2015, the month when U.S. regulators announced hundreds of thousands of Volkswagen diesel vehicles were equipped with illegal emissions cheating technology known as defeat devices. Volkswagen halted sales of diesel versions of the Passat, Golf and other models shortly after that announcement and has not yet received government approval for a technical fix that would substantially reduce nitrogen oxides emissions from those vehicles.
