Investors are forecast to purchase as much as $80 billion in bonds supporting clean power and the environment this year, as growing interest from potential backers meets surging demand for renewable energy. That would match the total sales of so-called green bonds since 2010, when banks began offering a new format for investors to tap into fixed-income markets and finance wind farms, solar arrays and forms of clean power, according to a research note Friday from Bloomberg Intelligence. Appetite for green investments is increasing as pension funds seek to steer money into projects that fight climate change. That includes TerraForm Power Inc.'s $800 million offering to finance wind farms, the largest green bond sale in the first quarter, said Gregory Elders, an analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence in London.
