Three years after delaying implementation of its initial plan, the Environmental Protection Agency on May 20 finalized its plan to remove mercury contamination from sediment at the DuPont Pompton Lakes Works site in northern New Jersey. The cleanup will be financed and conduced by DuPont, which operated the facility from 1902 to 1994, with oversight by the EPA. It is expected to cost $43 million, the EPA said.
