Cellulosic ethanol producers will lobby the Environmental Protection Agency to limit the number of credits petroleum refiners can purchase in lieu of blending the fuel into gasoline products as part of the latest renewable fuel standard proposal. Cellulosic ethanol producers say the EPA has historically provided so many credits that petroleum refiners could effectively buy their way out of their renewable fuel standard obligation to blend cellulosic ethanol into their products, hampering growth of an industry that is seeing its first commercial-scale production. "It's a get out of jail for cheap card," Brooke Cole-man, executive director of the Advanced Ethanol Council, told Bloomberg BNA.
