The federal government has inched forward on its sustainability goals over the last year, according to an update issued June 10 by the White House. Agencies reported a 17.4 percent cut in greenhouse gas emissions from fuels, building energy use and other direct sources in fiscal year 2014, compared to a 2008 baseline, up slightly from the 17.2 percent reduction reported for fiscal year 2013 (45 ER 2262, 8/1/14). The federal government's share of electricity that comes from renewable sources stayed flat at about 9 percent. Meanwhile, its potable water use has fallen 21 percent since 2007.
