October 2015 has been declared "National Energy Action Month," which is fitting as the discussion about energy taxes has been prevalent during the year. The dialogue about tax policy as a part of energy and environmental policy will continue during the final three months of the year as federal and state legislators debate legislation and work towards finding a tax regime that promotes economic growth while raising adequate revenue. Discussions are likely to carry on for many years as the industry continues to expand to include new technology and renewable resources instead of relying solely on fossil fuels. Although political rhetoric often interferes with the legislative process in Washington, D.C., particularly regarding tax legislation, federal tax policy and reform is a hot topic and comes to the forefront of political debate.
