The Environmental Protection Agency's partnerships with businesses, governments, consumers and other organizations continued to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase investment in energy efficiency, clean energy and other "climate-friendly" practices in 2012, according to an annual report released Jan. 31. The agency's Climate Protection Partnerships, such as the Energy Star program for energy efficiency, prevented more than 365 million metric tons of emissions in the U.S. in 2012, which provided about $13 billion in benefits to society by preventing damages from climate change, the report said. Organizations partnering with the EPA also invested about $125 billion in energy-efficient technologies and practices in 2012, the report said.
