The Environmental Protection Agency has announced the availability of grants as part of the agency's effort to advance community use of low-cost portable sensors for monitoring air pollution. The grants are described by the EPA as for "research on empowering communities and individuals." Applications must be filed no later than Oct. 7. Applicants need to identify how sensors can be used, how people can be trained to use them, how sensor data can be understood and managed, and how to evaluate the effectiveness of sensors "in helping communities understand their exposure environment."
