Exide Technologies Inc. will be allowed to reopen its lead-acid battery recycling plant in Los Angeles County once it installs new air pollution control equipment and demonstrates emissions from the facility are within allowed levels, under two orders approved July 10 by the South Coast Air Quality Management District's hearing board. The unanimous vote by the administrative law panel offers Exide a path to bring the facility back online after it voluntarily suspended operations in March to work with air quality and hazardous waste regulators to address multiple environmental issues at the facility in Vernon, Calif.
