A New York trial court has dismissed two cases to compel the state to issue a long-delayed environmental impact statement on hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, to extract natural gas (Wallach v. N.Y. State Dep't of Envtl. Conservation, N.Y Sup. Ct., No. 6773-2013, 7/11/14; Joint Landowners Coal, of New York Inc. v. Cuomo, N.Y. Sup. Ct., No. 843-2014, 7/11/14). The New York State Supreme Court in Albany County, in two similar decisions issued July 11, said the plaintiffs lacked standing to sue because they failed to demonstrate that they would suffer any environmental harm.
