The Environmental Protection Agency has not made any decisions to date on whether to require inherently safer technologies through rulemakings and will solicit several rounds of public input on whether to proceed with regulations, an official said July 23. Nitin Natarajan, deputy assistant administrator for solid waste and emergency response, told reporters at the Chemical Sector Security Summit in Baltimore that the agency will approach potential inherently safer technology rules with "eyes wide open" as it considered ways to modernize its Risk Management Plan program.
